The busy coastal town of Ogunquit Maine is the quintessential beach community. Sun-kissed tourists visit the beach by day and walk around the town in the evening – shopping in the local gift shops and eating lobster rolls and other delicious coastal delicacies. Ogunquit should absolutely be added to your East Coast vacation bucket list – there are lots of things to do. If you are looking for a place to stay, the Meadowmere Resort Maine is a wonderful family resort in a great location.
Despite its close location to our home and a great reputation as a travel destination, we’d never visited the town of Ogunquit for an overnight stay until last week. When I was contacted by the family-friendly Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit for a review, I knew it was somewhere that we wanted to experience.
Before the kids went back to school in late August, it was the perfect opportunity to have a quick getaway. We loved our stay at the conveniently located Meadowmere Resort Maine – here’s everything you need to know about the resort.
Disclosure: Our stay at the Meadowmere Ogunquit was complimentary for purposes of review. All opinions are my own.
A Review of Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit Maine
Location of Meadowmere Resort
Ogunquit Maine is conveniently located on the southeast coast of Maine, near Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, NH. It’s a little over an hour away from Boston, and five hours from NYC. If you are visiting the Boston area, it’s a place you could easily add to your vacation plans for a night or two.
Meadowmere Resort is located right in Ogunquit, on Route 1/Main Street. It’s about a 10-minute walk to downtown and the Ogunquit beach, and about a 20-minute walk to Perkins Cove. The Ogunquit Playhouse, which offers theater productions, is also a short walk from the resort. There are a number of shops and restaurants within walking distance as well.
The hotel offers free parking for those who book direct with the hotel, and with the traffic and parking limitations in the town, it’s a good idea to leave your car parked. Once we arrived at the resort, we parked our car and walked everywhere. It was so much easier, and you’ll see lots of other families doing the same. It’s just so much more convenient than driving.
If you’d prefer not to walk everywhere, there is the Ogunquit Trolley, which has a stop right at the resort. It also stops at many popular locations throughout the town. These trolleys operate seasonally and are independent of the resort but can be an easy and convenient way to get around without worrying about parking.
Not planning to drive to Ogunquit? The Amtrak Downeaster makes a stop in nearby Wells Maine. There are ways to get from Wells to Ogunquit without renting a car, so you won’t have to worry about that. Check details and book in advance if you are planning to do this.
If you are taking the Amtrak Downeaster, purchase tickets in advance. It leaves from Boston’s North Station, at the Boston Garden.
Rooms at Meadowmere Resort
For a small resort, the Meadowmere Resort offers lots of different room options for you to choose from – including some that are really perfect options for families. There are five different buildings, including the Main Building, the East Meadow Building, the West Meadow Building, and the South Meadow Building.
The Country Squire Building is open seasonally and is more of a motel-style building (with exterior access rather than interior corridors). It’s available for booking from May to October each year, which is the timeframe when most tourists visit the area.
Room types at the Meadowmere include the following:
Resort rooms are standard hotel rooms with free WiFi and private balconies or patios. These rooms are offered with either one king bed, two double beds, or two queen beds.
Country Squire rooms have a similar configuration, but don’t have balconies/patios and aren’t attached to the main building. The Country Squire rooms also have exterior, motel-style entrances, rather than interior corridors.
Family suites are a great option for families who need a little more space to spread out. This is the type of room we had, and it was absolutely perfect for our family. I wish more hotels offered this configuration because it really is a great option for families on vacation.
These rooms have a common entryway with two separate bedrooms. In the suite we had, one of the rooms had two double beds and one had two single beds. Each room has a television with cable tv, and there’s one bathroom and one refrigerator. There are plenty of outlets in the rooms, and our room had a small balcony attached to the main bedroom.
We loved having the two separate rooms in the family suite. With a boy and a girl, it’s always a challenge when we stay in a room with just two beds. This setup was perfect for us.
Although we loved the room, we weren’t in it for very long. There’s just so much going on in the resort and in Ogunquit that you really won’t need to spend too much time in the room.
In addition to standard rooms and family suites, the resort also offers luxury suites with a jacuzzi/fireplace or both. There are also honeymoon suites and ADA suites available.
Rooms don’t have coffee makers, but complimentary coffee is offered all day in the hotel lobby (along with flavored water). I usually like to have a coffee when I wake up, so this is a great option to have available.
Amenities at Meadowmere Resort
The location and proximity to Ogunquit activities are a huge benefit to staying at the Meadowmere. However, when you are at the resort, there are tons of things to enjoy right there – especially for families. So you won’t really even have to go very far to start enjoying your vacation.
Game room
A game room at the resort offers air hockey and arcade games. You can also rent controllers for video games. We didn’t spend much time at the game room, but I know we would have been there more if we had stayed longer or if the weather wasn’t cooperating.
Theater/TV Room
If you want to get out of the sun for a while, the on-site TV room (the Screening room) offers regular showings of popular family-friendly movies. There are sometimes R-rated movies shown in the evenings. A schedule of movies is listed at the front desk, so you can plan around that.
Indoor and Outdoor Pools
Do you and your kids want to swim while on vacation? The Meadowmere Resort offers an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. Because the weather was beautiful outside, we spent much of our time at the outdoor pool.
This pool, located adjacent to the West Meadow Pub, is open seasonally. There are seats and tables around the pool, so you can relax while the kids swim. Food and beverage service from the pub is available.
If the weather isn’t cooperating, there’s also an indoor pool that is located near the front lobby. There’s plenty of seating located around that pool as well. If you are visiting in the cooler months of the year, all of the buildings (except for the Country Squire, which is open seasonally), are attached to the indoor pool so you won’t have to go outside to visit the pool.
My favorite amenity at the resort is the Roman Spa, an indoor spa with warm water and two small waterfalls. It was surprisingly quiet during our stay, so I had a relaxing time there. It’s part waterfall, part jacuzzi. The Meadowmere also offers an outdoor hot tub located right near the indoor pool.
Towels for both pools and the whirlpools can be picked up in the resort lobby before you head to the pool. There are towel bins by the pools where you can drop off used towels.
Fitness Center
If you are looking to work out on vacation, there’s also a fitness center on the property. The whole Ogunquit area is also a great place to take a walk or jog, so you can always exercise outside if the weather is cooperating.
Arriving before check-in? While check-in to the resort is at 4 pm or later, guests arriving before that time can take advantage of pre-check-in. You’ll be able to park your car and use the resort amenities before your room is ready. You’ll receive a text message once you are able to check-in. It’s a great option if you want to take full advantage of that first day of vacation.
During our visit, we stopped first at Kittery Maine for some outlet shopping and then arrived at the resort in the late morning. We parked our car and then walked into Perkins Cove for lunch. When we were done eating and shopping, our room was ready. We checked in, unpacked, and then headed right to the outdoor pool.
There are other amenities at the resort including a library with books and board games, and a BBQ area. There is a daily resort fee charged that covers these amenities.
Food at the Meadowmere Ogunquit
There are loads of restaurants located just steps from the hotel. The resort offers books filled with menus of local spots. If you are looking for someplace to eat, this is a great place to start your search. The staff at the resort is also very helpful in sending you in the right direction.
During the busy season, you may want to check if your restaurant choice accepts reservations. Things definitely get busy, so it’s a good idea to either have a reservation or arrive early before the crowds.
West Meadow Pub
The Meadowmere Ogunquit has its own pub with a full bar right on the property. This pub is open all day from mid-June to early September and for dinner on the weekends the rest of the year. Be sure to check their website for the latest operating hours during your visit, because they do definitely vary.
If you are at the outdoor pool, you can also get food and drinks from the pub. We didn’t have lunch or dinner at the pub but did get some drinks while enjoying the outdoor pool.
We definitely recommend staying at the Meadowmere Resort during your Ogunquit family vacation. It’s conveniently located and offered amenities that families will absolutely enjoy. You can learn more on their website.
