Ocean Edge Resort: A Family Resort in Cape Cod

I’ve lived in New England most of my life, and for years I’ve heard about Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Course, a deluxe, family-friendly resort in Brewster, MA – right in the Mid-Cape area. In recent years, we’ve stayed at Ocean Edge Resort three – once in the Presidential Bay Collection on the historic mansion Side, and twice in the Villages.

Disclosure: Our first stay at Ocean Edge Resort was complimentary for purposes of review. We paid the full price for our second and third stays. This post contains affiliate links and a purchase/click through one of these links may result in a commission paid to us at no additional cost to you.

Review of Ocean Edge Resort: A Family Resort in Cape Cod

The Location of Ocean Edge Resort

Ocean Edge Resort recently rated the Best Resort, Cape Cod by Boston Magazine, is located on Cape Cod Bay in Brewster, MA. It’s the perfect place for a Cape Cod family vacation and is in the mid-Cape section of Cape Cod. It’s truly one of the best resorts for the whole family.

This luxury hotel is located a short distance from both Nickerson State Park and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. It’s also close to a number of popular Cape Cod activities, although you’ll probably plan to spend a lot of your time at the resort because there are so many activities.

The Accommodations at Ocean Edge Resort

Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club offers several different accommodation types over 429 acres, many of them located right on the waterfront. It’s a huge resort, with several distinct areas.

All of the accommodations are located in two distinct sections of the resort. The Mansion section is located in the historic Nickerson Family Mansion and Carriage House, while the Villages surround Cape Cod’s only 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course. These sections are down the street from each other.

During our first visit, we stayed in Brewster House, which is part of the Presidential Bay Collection (within the Mansion section). The two-bedroom villa included a kitchenette with a stovetop, wine cooler, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and dishwasher, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a washer and dryer, and two small porches.

It’s a great spot for a Cape Cod family beach vacation – you can easily prepare most of your meals in the room if you prefer. We only stayed for two nights, but if I was planning a longer stay, I definitely would have brought groceries with me for our family vacation.

Villa living room

The decor of the villa is a cool, relaxing, coastal theme. Since I love anything nautical and coastal, I especially loved the decor. The beds and linens are also extremely comfortable, and the Tommy Bahama bath amenities are a nice touch. The strong, slightly spicy scent is the perfect match for the resort. Turndown service, as well as free WiFi, is offered to guests.

Kitchen in Villa

Within the mansion section, there are several different options for accommodations. These include three-bedroom, three-bathroom villas, signature king guestrooms, premier king guestrooms, two-queen bed guest rooms, grand corner suites, and two-bedroom, two-bathroom villas.

The other section of Ocean Edge Resort is called the Villages at Ocean Edge. Within the villages, you’ll have options for the type of villa you book. These include the following:

  • 2 bed, 2 bath villas
  • 3 bed, 3 bath villas
  • one-bedroom villas
  • Accessible villas

During our second stay at Ocean Edge Resort, we stayed in the Villages side. Our accommodations, a one-bedroom villa, offered a bedroom with a king bed, a living room with a pullout couch, a kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and stovetop, a porch, a washer/dryer, and one bedroom.

We chose a one-bedroom villa condo at Ocean Edge in the Britterige section along Blueberry Pond. This section is close to the main road and the Cape Cod bike trail, making it optimal for walking through town.

While we loved the one-bedroom villa, the pullout couch could be too small for older kids. If you have teens, I would recommend getting a larger unit.

Endicott Villas

Over Thanksgiving 2020, we decided to stay at the Endicott Villas at Ocean Edge. These villas are located across the street from the Mansion on the Villages side. We were able to get a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit, which had loads of room for our family of four.

Our Endicott villa included two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an office, and a living room/dining room. These villas also have small full kitchens with an oven, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, dishwasher, refrigerator, and dishes/pots.

Although these villas are located quite a distance from the Mansion section of the hotel, they are convenient to the golf course, the Linx Tavern, the pro shop, and one of the outdoor pools. We loved staying in this villa and would definitely book it in the future.

The Amenities and Activities at Ocean Edge Resort

Regardless of which season you travel there, Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club offers numerous amenities and activities for families. With a location right on the Cape Cod Bike Trail, biking is a popular activity im the summer season.

Bike rentals at the resort are available (for an additional fee), and staff members can help direct you to the best bike route for your family. We saw that many families brought along their own bikes, which is a great choice if you live nearby.

The private Bay Pines Beach is located right by the Mansion rooms and is complimentary for Mansion-side guests only. It’s a very quick walk down a private path to access the private beach. Beach chairs are provided in season – in the summer, beach attendants help set them up.

Although we visited in the fall, it was still very warm out and really enjoyed spending some time at the beach. Guests of the Villages can’t use the beach but can take advantage of the Brewster Beach Pass along with a complimentary in-season shuttle to use the local beach.

There’s also a small public beach located adjacent to the private beach. It’s about ¾ of a mile from the Britterige section and is easily walkable. During our recent stay, we walked down to the beach.

If you plan to do this, I’d recommend bringing along a beach wagon so you can carry your stuff easily. You’ll want to bring your own chairs and towels as none are provided. It’s a small beach, so arrive early to stake out your spot.

Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club also offers many other family-friendly amenities and activities, including three outdoor pools, two indoor pools, eleven tennis courts, a fitness center, and saunas and whirlpools. There’s also a shuttle service to take you around the reason

We spent an afternoon at one of the outdoor pools, located right by our villa, and it was relaxing and fun. It’s a nice break from the beach.

In the summer months, and during certain school vacation weeks, Ocean Edge Resort also offers children’s activities and programs. We did a sample program during our stay – the kids really enjoyed walking along the beach and learning about little critters.

Although our sample program was run by the nearby Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, in season, the resort offers its own programming for kids. Keep an eye on their website for the various programming options offered.

There are also seasonal kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals (for an additional fee), concierge service, and a business center. You can also kayak along Blueberry Pond in the villages section.

Looking to relax during your family vacation with a spa treatment? The Beach House spa offers signature treatments including massages and facials. The Beach House is located along the main road by the villages section of the resort.

Ocean Edge has also recently opened the Front Lawn, which is open to the public as well as resort guests. There, you’ll have access to a menu with small plates and drinks. The front lawn also offers lawn games, fire pits, and more.

The Restaurants at Ocean Edge Resort

Ocean Edge Resort and Golf Club boasts three full-service restaurants – Bayzo’s Pub and Ocean Terrace at the Mansions, and Linx Tavern at the Villages as well as the Shark Bah and Snack Shacks located throughout the property. There’s also the Beach Bar, located adjacent to the private beach.

During our stay, we dined outdoors at the gorgeous Ocean Terrace. The food, although expensive (as is the case at many places on the Cape), was delicious. My kids loved the “Young Adults” Menu at the Ocean Terrace, perfect for kids who aren’t quite ready for the adult menu.

There are many restaurants, shops, and activities located right near the resort, so you may want to visit some of the local restaurants in addition to the dining options at the resort. While we ate on the property for one dinner, we did venture out for our other meals.

Some of our favorite nearby restaurants include:

JT’s Restaurant – ice cream, seafood, and other food located within walking distance of the villages.

Cobie’s – offers lobster rolls, fried clams, paninis, salads, ice cream, and more with outdoor seating.

Snowy Owl Coffee – delicious coffee drinks along with light pastries.

Breakwater Fish and Lobster Market – poke bowls, oysters, lobster rolls, and more (open seasonally)
