Starting October 30, 2024, Disney World begins piloting a new program – the Lightning Lane Premier Pass. This new pass is an optional, paid upgrade ($129 to $449 per pass, plus applicable taxes) that allows guests a one-time entrance into each Lightning Lane without scheduling. Here are the details.
Disclosure: We’ve received complimentary access to Walt Disney World in the past but haven’t received any access to this new program. This post is based on my current understanding of the program – see the Disney website for all program info. The Lightning Lane Premier Pass Will Initially Be Limited
This program will be piloted starting on October 30, 2024. Initially, the purchase of the Premier Pass will be limited to guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts and Villas, Shades of Green, the Walt Disney World Swan (and Swan Reserve), and the Walt Disney World Dolphin. You will already have to have purchased your theme park tickets.
Pricing for the New Program Will Vary
Pricing for this program will vary based on the date and the theme park you are visiting. Initial prices will range from $129 to $449 per pass, plus applicable taxes. This can really add up because it is per person, in addition to the park admission.
Access Will Be for One Park
When you purchase your Lightning Lane Premier Pass, it will be for one park. So, if you have the park hopper option on your ticket, you won’t be able to use the pass in that second park. If you are planning to purchase it for a day of your trip, think about which park has the most attractions you want to experience (for me, I think it would be Disney’s Hollywood Studios).
You’ll Also Receive Some Photos
In addition to the lightning lane access, you’ll also get some photos. The Lightning Lane Premier Pass comes with digital downloads from the Disney PhotoPass Service and the PhotoPass Lenses.
Lightning Lane Premier Pass Can Be Purchased in Advance
This system will be limited initially, so availability may vary. You can purchase it up to seven days before your resort check-in date. Availability will start at 7 a.m. Eastern Time, and you can buy for the full length of your stay (up to 14 days).
This Pass is Entirely Optional
You don’t have to purchase any Lightning Lane options, including this new Premier Pass. Standby lines will still be available. If a standby line isn’t offered, a virtual queue will be available, free, and included in your ticket (although you do have to try for a spot at the designated time through the app).
This Will Also Be Offered at Disneyland
Disneyland is also launching a Lightning Lane Premier Pass. It will be available on October 23, 2024, and can be used in both parks, assuming you have the park hopper option. Prices will also be different at Disneyland.
